This is a cute book for the fairy lover's in your life. Makes a great gift as well.

The author, Liza Gardener Walsh, has created a hybrid cooking and craft book. My only complaint is the lack of clarity when it comes to using edible ingredients versus inedible ingredients. At the beginning of her book she writes about creating "fairy soups" in her backyard which I presume was not "real" cooking as the ingredients were not meant for eating. In fairness there are sections of the cookbook where she warns young cooks about selecting safe food ingredients.I do believe her book would have been far better if she had focused on either writing a cookbook or a craft book. Her attempt to to do both muddled the issue.At the end of her book you'll find a chapter called Mud Pies. This chapter is a perfect example of lack of clarity.When it comes to imagination and play her book is superb. I loved the fairy drawings, her ideas on how to present a tea party, and I loved the color photos strewn throughout her book.I would highly encourage parents to supervise and explain how to use her book.I'd give her book 5 stars for creativity and 3 stars for implementation.Recommend with caveats given.Review written after downloading a galley from Net Galley.

Fairy House Cooking: Simple Scrumptious Recipes & Fairy Party Fun! includes plenty of recipes and ideas for a perfect make-believe party, and the recipes are not only easy enough for kids, but are dishes that kids are sure to like.There are suggestions on keeping the kitchen clean, kitchen safety, notes to parents, and cooking tips. Each recipe is rated according to difficulty. There are picture of most of the recipes, along with fairies making and eating them.Some of the recipes are everyday recipes that most of us are familiar with, such as muffins, scones, a puffy pancake, and morning glory muffins. The recipes have been given a “fairy” twist, however, to make them fun for kids to make. One recipe, Speedy Garden Patch Cake, is known to many as Wacky Cake or a similar name, and can be whipped up in about 6 minutes. Walsh adds dirt, worms, and flowers for the fairy element, and the finished cake is almost magical as well as delicious. There is a recipe for Candied Violets (wasn’t there a cake with candied violets in one of the Harry Potter Books?) and uses for edible flours. The book includes an excellent, flaky pie crust recipe that can be used for a scrumptious blueberry pie and miniature plum (or peach) tartlets. Also, an easy Apple Crisp as well as some no-bake confections such as Bird’s Nest Cookies and Fairy Wands.Little girls (and some boys) will consider this book magical and will want to make every recipe in the book to serve at a fairy tea or just for fun on a leisure afternoon. The recipes are easy, succinct, and easy to follow. Although it is always recommended that an adult be present when kids are cooking, the recipes are easy enough for kids to make by themselves, and most call for simple ingredients that are already in the fridge, freezer or on pantry shelves.Fairy House Cooking: Simple Scrumptious Recipes & Fairy Party Fun! is a magical book with great pictures, great recipes, and great ideas for kids to entertain. It is jam packed with recipes, with clear directions, colorful photographs and delightful little tidbits giving insight into the fairy world. They are sandwiches, sweets, breakfast food and edible flowers. Something for everyone. Not every recipe had a photo of the finished product but there are many that do.The Purple Power Puffs and Edible Fairy Houses were favorites of mine as well as the chapter on Recipes for the Fairies &Friends that are for play only but include mud pies. Not really a child’s book but for anyone who wants to have fairy food fun with children as their assistant.The publisher through Net Galley provided a copy.

A delightful book for all! I enjoyed the fairy "food" and then the real food, It was fun to have created food with my daughter. We really enjoyed working through each recipe. Thinking of fairies calls upon imagination and I enjoyed the variety of unique ideas that came with this book.It is one to do with your children not send them out alone to do, and I feel like that was the message the author wanted to give " become a child again, find the magic".

When Mikko Hyponnen (of F-Secure fame) posted about this book on Twitter, I immediately pre-ordered the book. I got it two days later. (I was only one-day advanced on the pre-order, it seems.) I wasn't quite sure what to expect exactly, only I knew it had to do with cyber-security, so I was intrigued.What I got was a fascinating book with two main stories told from the perspectives of the good guys. The first was a story of how a young dyslexic man struggled against the odds to become one of the best people around at defeating Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDOS) attacks. His story, which spans at least two continents and his unwitting participation with some of the internet's shadier characters, is a fascinating one. That story comprises part one of the book, and ties into part two quite neatly. Part two is the story of a British detective and his exploits in foreign countries (particularly Russia) in his efforts to find and eventually catch several of the same cyber-criminals from part one. While it has the tempo of a fictional "cyber-thriller", this book is non-fiction and is based on the very thorough work of Joseph Menn, a reporter for the Financial Times (previously of the LA Times). The overall theme is that of the war that is taking place using the world's computers and networks as a battleground. Despite the chronicled successes outlined in these two stories, it's a war that's very quickly being lost.I've been working in the cyber-security industry for a while now, so I'm not entirely unfamiliar with some of the more sinister aspects of what happens on the internet. However, I think for the "layman" or someone who doesn't work with technology and/or cyber-security, this book will be a really good look into a world that you don't ordinarily see, replete with real heroes, real villains, and real consequences to real people. Most people will understand some of the consequences from the flood of spam that they're used to getting; for the unlucky few, identity theft will bring the stories even closer to home. Even if you're fortunate enough to have never experienced any of those consequences yourself, you may have recently heard of the attacks on Google and several other companies. The war taking place in cyberspace is all too real, and while I would hope that most people never have to be involved, the opposite is likely the case. It is escalating, and there need to be more stories like the ones in this book if we ever hope to win.

The author, Joseph Menn, is able to capture the early years as the cyber criminal community was just beginning to productize its cyber business, to professionalize it so that it ran more like a business. He tells the story through two early cyber security practitioners: a very young Barrett Lyon—a cyber security services businessman who built one of the first denial of service protection companies called Prolexic Technologies—and Andy Cocker—at the time, an agent for the UK's National Hi-Tech Crime Unit. Lyon gets sucked into protecting organized crime operations that dabbled in offshore gambling and pornography, and Cocker used old-fashioned police work to arrest some of the early cyber criminals when the FBI seemed completely impotent at the prospect. Menn also manages to sprinkle in a discussion of some of the most significant cyber security milestones between 1995 and 2009, such as the emergence of the Russian Business Network and the identification of the Chinese Network Crack Program Hacker group. Fatal System Error is a vital historical reference for the cyber security community regarding the evolution of cyber crime. It is worthy of being a part of the cyber security canon, and you should have read it by now.

Great read for every young person and anyone who wants to brush up on goverment.

Very good book for teaching the government to young children.

I learned so much for this book.Did you know that our constitution is the shortest of all that were written? And did you know that there is no set number of justices for the supreme court written in the constitution so it has changed over time? And did you know the US existed before the constitution was written? All things I did not know.It was written for young kids but I hate reading the ‘grown’ books on legislation because they always throw in big words, as if knowing the three branches of government weren’t confusing enough! So I get most of my books for the kids section on government and other things cause its easier for me. Simple yet concise writing on our government’s branches as well as some history as to how the branches came about being decided upon.Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Entretenida lectura con mucha acción - con un trasfondo serio y real de la historia reciente de Venezuela. Mucho se publica sobre esto, pero casi siempre intereses, prejuicios ideológicos o exaltaciones emocionales se sobreponen a una visión sincera y justa. Con esta novela de espionaje, Moisés Naím, pensador, analista y comentarista político respetado en todo el mundo, haciendo uso de un profundo conocimiento de Venezuela, su país, no se habrá propuesto escribir una novela de altas ambiciones literarias. Pero ha logrado un excelente medio para que un amplio público se haga un idea muy correcta de lo que pasó con Hugo Chávez y su revolución bolivariana. Lectura que recomiendo para toda persona que quiera entender lo que pasó y pasa en Venezuela. Ideal, por ejemplo, para mis hijos que nacieron en ese hermoso país en tiempos de Chávez, pero que, viviendo ahora en Europa, difícilmente pueden descifrar las confusas noticias que reciben de un proceso en pleno desarrollo.

El titulo de la novela es «Dos espias en Caracas». Sin embargo despues de haber leido 6 capitulos, me luce basicamente un relato sobre Hugo Chaves: el golpe, la carcel, la presidencia y sus Alo presidente. Y muchas lineas, desde el principio, como: «Nungun ruido es mas irritante que el del telefono cuando interrumpe a una pareja "que hacer" el amor» y sigue con: «Pone labios, lengua, pezones y manos al servicio de su reconquista». La chica se llama "Chloe" y en este momento no se si es uno de los dos espias. O si es que esta con un espia. Sin embargo sera interesante la lectura de una novela sobre Chavez, en especial, para los que no la vivieron.

Es una novela extraordinaria. De verdad que los que vivimos esos 14 años, reconocemos los acontecimientos y hace la novela más interesante.

La recomiendo. Muy próxima a la realidad de Venezuela y Cuba. Por otro lado, una narrativa perfecta y cautivante.

La trama es simplona.

This is a poor attempt at a spy thriller by a very skilled political scientist. The book does a great job at describing how strong the Cuban influence over the Venezuelan regime of Chavez and Maduro has been as well as the level of corruption and ineptitude in the country... As for plots and twists that are not actually part of historical accounts, they were amateurish at best and the attempt at erotic scenes was laughable. Some names of historical figures where changed and I am not sure why that was.
