Just about the only book out there to explain how to build Chrome apps. Why build chrome apps? For me, I own an ASUS chrome book and wanted to do a little programming on it. The Google developer site did not give me enough help to get started (I needed real beginner help) so I bought this book. It really explains the difference between web programming and chrome app programming and has answered all of my questions so far. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to build a competitor to Google Docs. Kudos to O'Reilly for publishing a book on what I think is a niche area.

The book is good enough -- or what I've read of it -- but Google just announced that they're killing off Chrome apps, so it's a moot point. Don't buy this book, because it won't be useful in your career, business, or job anymore.

Nothing in this book that is not easily available on-line.

The only reason why I did not give this book five stars is that it is not for beginners. I wish I had read the preface before purchasing this book, because the author clears states that this is an advanced book. I am a systems administrator, and not a developer; however, I do have a very basic understanding of programming. Although this book is a painful read for me, I can clearly see that the author has gone through great lengths to be very thorough. Further, this book has forced me to learn concepts that are needed to understand the book better.Before you purchase this book, you need to know the following:1. Callbacks. I had no idea what a callback was prior to reading this book. To understand callbacks, Google, "Callback Hell."2. Be prepared to consult Mozilla Developer Network and W3Schools if you are a novice.3. Do the node.js tutorials at the Node School, to better understand callbacks.

This is a wonderful book with two-stanza poems illustrating each saint's life. I love the pictures and the poems. They are detailed enough to give a good idea of what each saint is known for, but short enough that they kept my kids' (ages 2, 5, & 6) attention. The stories led to many discussions with the kids about various aspects of the lives of these saints. I also really like that these are all modern saints. With the exception of Sts. Therese, Zelie, & Louis Martin, I believe all the saints in this book are from the 20th. It's refreshing to see stories with modern saints to show our children that saints are not just people of the past - they are the moms, dads, priests, nuns, doctors, mountain climbers, and children of this day & age as well. Very well done!

What well-written poetry and wonderful illustrations! The poetry is concise and sufficiently descriptive; the illustrations are simple but nicely creative. It's inspiring to have tales of saintly people who lived in more recent times, some of whom were part of our own lifetimes! I purchased three books, one for each of my children's households. You can't help falling in love with these sweet illustrations and beautifully written poems. Each Saint is introduced in a way to inspire children to want to learn more about these holy souls. The fact that they lived quite recently makes them even more real to all of us. This may be a children's book, but it spoke to me as well. Ordering several for gifts.

I’m so excited to share this book with our 15-month-old for years to come! I anticipate giving this as a gift to many of our friends. The illustrations are beautiful and the selection of saints included is awesome, with a great variety of heavenly heros. I love that some illustrations include an actual photo of the saint’s environment - for instance, a picture of the slums of Calcutta for St. Mother Teresa. Beautifully crafted and thoughtfully written. I love how the simple rhymes tell each story of sainthood in a concise yet complete manner. I’d buy other volumes with more saints and rhymes if they were produced! It would be so fun to have one on the doctors of the Church, or of the Apostles. I would also love a board book edition for little ones. All in all, worth every penny for what I’m sure will be a new family favorite.

I bought this book on a whim to add to our "poetry" time each day and as a way to start introducing saints to my 3.5y old. We read through all of them once and then she requested we read only the girl saints the next day and the day after that. After only reading it three times, she began dressing up as Our Lady of Fatima and demanding we "pray more rosaries". She loves the rhymes and it's a great way to introduce her to saints she can choose from to begin learning more about. Highly recommend.

This book is delightful. You might be tempted to say that it's simple but that's what I like about it! My kids enjoy the poems and I love sharing these modern saints with them. The pictures prompt great conversations and it warms my heart to see so many examples of ways to become saints in our modern times!

I like the illustrations, Book is colorful.The text (poems) is very simplistic. It is a quite simplistic overview of each saint.I think even very young children would appreciate more information on each saint.It's a start, however.

We love this book! My kids are crazy over the illustrations and like that each saint is explained in such a simple way. We read it often and it’s already a family favorite.

This book introduces concepts quickly while keeping exercises simple in order to give the reader more options to work with while learning the basics. Highly recommend the book, many of my colleagues have used this as a large part of their preparation for the SAS base certification exam.

I read this book, along with a few others to study for the Long-Term Healthcare Administrator/Nursing Home Administrator Test. The book is concise and had a conversational style that made this book was enjoyable to read (if you are studying for the test, you know that many of these books are a chore to read). I do believe it helped prepare me to pass the test, but you cannot rely on this book alone.

I have a problem when it comes to textbooks in general, I tend to fall asleep within 10 minutes. It has made school work difficult over the years. This text is actually very readable. The subject matter is interesting (being we will all be getting older and needing assistance at some point)and is written in a manner that is easy to understand. I have found some authors use lofty terminology to make themselves feel superior. This author writes so that(I think)anyone could understand the subject.

I read this book as part of my Graduate School course on long-term care and human services systems. The book describes many aspects of long-term care in terms that even a newbie like me could understand. An excellent textbook for anyone interested in this subject.

What I appreciated about this book was the information. The author clearly knows what she is talking about. I expected a little more from the balancing exercises, but I would still consider this a very good read and was definitely not a waste of money. I am interested in learning more about energy healing, therefore a thorough knowledge about the Chakra's is a must. This book is a keeper.

I have to agree with the few reviews that point out how long-winded this book is. Let me save you some money and summarize for you:There is no magic bullet. Success is achieved by repeating small disciplines and taking small, ever-increasing steps.The basic message and practical instruction in this book could have been condensed into about 10 pages and have been no less powerful. Instead every chapter is basically a repetition of the same thing, with endless anecdotes about well known and not so well known people and how they have applied the principles. I managed to read diligently up to about chapter 5, when I finally caught on that I was being sold the same thing in different words or from a slightly different angle in just about every chapter.Hint: if you have read/watched anything by the likes of Jim Rohn or Brian Tracy, this book will offer you nothing new.Moral of the story: if you want to change your life, start today. It starts with one pushup that becomes two tomorrow. One dollar invested instead of spent on nonsense. One healthy meal instead of the junk you usually eat. Show up, repeat and grow.That's the Slight Edge. Good luck.

this was required reading for a conference that I recently attended...I highly recommend it...sent a copy to my daughter, who recently graduated from college...it really makes the case for the proposition that it's the little things that you do every day that make a difference...over time, the little things add up...these things are just as easy NOT to do as they are to do so just do them...takes focus off of seeing immediate and huge results, which, when not seen, often leads to people giving up...keeps focus on doing the little things each and every day with the mindset that "slow and steady wins the race"...

Save yourself the time and the money, there is nothing life changing here. Every other self-help book says these things in 2 chapters what took Jeff a whole book. It is endlessly repetitive, all he really says is work hard and getting good at something takes a long time. Mastery by Robert Greene is a much better book to learn that same lesson.He just uses the words "Slight edge" to justify why only 5% people are successful without every quantifying or caring to elaborate on what exactly he means by slight edge. If you are at absolute rock bottom of your life and have never read a self-help book then yes this book might have some value for you but even then there are better contenders which more bang for your time and money.

I read this book 3 years ago and without me even knowing it, it set me on a path of personal growth and exploration that I could have never dreamed of. As a result of reading this book, I committed to reading 10 pages of a good book every day. From there, other little changes started flowing.Now, 3 years later, I've read (or listened to) over 40 great books, transformed the relationships I have with my friends and family, and has even inspired me to create my own Rise Up movement to pay it forward.So many people I've shared this book with tell me it's too repetitive, he just says the same thing again and again... That may be true, yet if you read it the way I did, one day, one chapter at a time, you will find that there's more than just knowledge in this book. Used that way it is a catalyst for action.One final note, this book came to me as a result of a friend giving it to me. He read it and thought it would be helpful for me. My transformation is the ripple effect of another man's transformation. That, and the slight edge change over the pastcouple3 years is enough of proof for me to know the power of this message and stick with it for the rest of my life. I'm 23 now... I got a long way to go.

I was introduced to this book on an audio CD. I was I liked it so much I ordered a paperback. I've read the paperback so many times that it's held together with paperclips and a rubber band. Of course I could buy myself another book, but is something about the appreciation of the original one that makes me keep the tattered book. But the way the author writes it so eloquently it somehow pushes another charge under your feet. The perspective of what you already know then turns into a burst of empowerment and you're ready to takeoff and implement the "Slight Edge" into your daily life. You finally make it work for you, and you see it works.So after knowing how empowering the book was for me, I buy this book in HARDBACK, and share it with special people. I buy the hardback with hopes they will continue to read it and hopefully it will not fall apart like my paperback.

I have read a zillion music biz books but this Jerry Wexler (Atlantic Records partner) story goes to top of the list. Never have I been sent to the kindle dictionary more; the writing style is "off the charts" entertaining. Described in the forward as "a holy terror...his rapid fire speech blends a promoters hype with a scholars precision, his lexicon a mixture of the mean streets and graduate library." Truly incredible story. It feels as if Jerry actually wrote this. His voice brilliantly captured. His honesty is refreshing. His contribution to Atlantic Records and American music nearly unmatched. As good a read as I ever experienced. Bravo. 5 Stars!!

I simply loved this book, the best music bio I've ever read. If you like to know all about the music, where the songs came from, who the sidemen were, how the music was produced, you will enjoy this. Much better than the BB King/Ritz collaboration, which. while enjoyable, doesn't hold a candle to this effort. I usually pass books along when I'm through with them, but this will stay on my shelf!

This is a great book. Looking at the recordings that have been done at many of the Southern Recording studios, Wex's name keeps popping up, along with Atlantic Records, Erteguns, & Tommy Dowd. Wonderful book - Full of Musical meanderings. A welcome addition to my Library. I bought this a while back and am currently Re reading it at this time. It's like an old friend.

Jerry entered the music business very early in 1953 at Atlantic Records. He was already into jazz (deeply) when he started at Atlantic at the age of 36. So, the first part of the book has a lot of history of his family, grandparents and the conditions of the world he lived his early life through. He was driven by his mother to succeed at something and though he tried a few schools, that did not appeal to him either. He mentions practially every Jazz Man in the book that ever played and met many 'music people' in NY. He also loved the south at a very tough time here in the USA with race relations In TE, AL and Texas but that didn't deter him from attending llive performances in all black dance halls.Jerry had three children and a wife but he was working long hours and didn't have much time for them. His oldest daughter, Anita, died of aids at 38 years old (also worked in the music field), having been in an out of clinics to get straight. He also has a son Paul and another daughter Lisa (drummer). He was married three times.Spent time in the Service and 2 years later went back to Atlantic. Yes, things had changed! Jerry as a hard worker and was admired by his friends and people who knew him. He seemed to understand how to get the BEST out of his artists and musicians. Hard to believe he was 60 by the time he produced the Album, 'Planet Waves' by Bob Dylan and 'Comminique' by my favorite group) Dire Straits. The 60''s weren't really his generation and I think his great love was Jazz and then later Funk.(or mixing them together). He liked the music to cook and in the pocket. That's for sure! Aretha Franklin (RESPECT (Sweet Inspirations), Wilson Pickett 'Mustang Sally', La Vern Baker 'Tweedle Dee', Booker T and The MG's (Green Onions), Dr. John (wrong place, right time) .Solomon Burke (Cry To Me) and early Willie Nelson. It was a good book to read and it will explain what it was like way back with R&B. I do believed he lead an extraodinary life and made the world a better place with good music to grow up with.

Wexler produced so much great music I love listening to, and his autobiography was surprisingly literate and quite fascinating.

This is a very interesting take of the modern religious Jewish follower. It is a very Jewish book and does not have a universal message. It is amazingly written. It talks about the logic of following G-d’s Commandments and the beauty behind it. Todays Orthodox Jews get stuck behind the draconian laws, and forget there is a special spiritual reason behind them. That is the takeaway message. In a day where religious practice is under scrutiny, R. Soloveitchik brings to the reader the inner joy of following Halacha. Enjoy!!!

Rabbi Soloveitchik is a unique and startling writer. What he's saying is right in front of you already, you just haven't listened to the tour guide enough. So you'll read it again and again. Wonderful book. Good price and delivery.

This book changed my life - it gave me a new religious direction and spoke to me in a way that no other work has ever done. However, this happened nearly 20 years after my first (and unsuccessful) attempt to read it ! My advice is not to be put-off by the difficult philosophical language of the book. Have a dictionary to hand and persevere !

It may be a tough go at first but if the reader works his way through the elegant and highly intelligent prose of HALAKHIC MAN, the book ultimately yields a starkly simple but profound truth--that the Torah was brought down from heaven and given to the Jewish People here on earth, so that this nation of priests can reshape the physical realm into something holy.
