The perfect book for learning how to tie any kind of scarf in many sophisticated ways. Such a handy size to fit in your purse, for trips.The format is easy to understand, and in color. Within a minute, you can tie an excellent scarf. Watch out Hermes! Pretty stylish in it's textured exterior. Loved it so much, turned around and bought 3 more for the family. After giving it thought, I bought 4 more for friends, all through Amazon.

I never know what to do with scarves other than loop them but these little books make such great gifts for the scarf-wearing fashionista. Bought several as gifts and had to keep one for myself.

I bought this pretty little book to put in a gift bag along with several LibbySue scarves as a gift for my teenage granddaughter. It was well received and I am now on the hook to deliver scarves on every gift-giving occasion! "Getting it right" for this age group is pretty hit or miss, so I am delighted to have discovered something that she genuinely enjoys.

I bought this book on a whim not knowing whether it would contain the information I needed. Sure I could have looked online every time I wanted to tie a scarf in a new way, but this book is more accessible - especially at 6:30 AM. The book contains drawings which illustrate each style. It's a great little reference!

I have a lot of scarves, and would like to wear them. However, the majority of my scarves are not that large, mostly head scarves. The majority of this book is for scarves that are long (hang down to your knees when wrapped around your neck); or thicker scarves (other than silk). Wasn't what I was hoping for.

A great book!!! The images are very easy to follow and understand. Plus, the layout is great- it starts with the types of folds you can make, and then the chapters are broken down to show you different ways to tie a square scarf, an oblong scarf (long and rectangular) and an embellished scarf utilizing several of the fold options they introduced in the beginning of the book. I wound up purchasing 10 more of these books to give to my clients as gifts (I'm a personal stylist). As with most things, you'll master these if you just practice practice practice!

This is a great little book to give as a gift to the woman in your life if she wears scarves. I'd bought it at a museum gift shop as a silly gift for my mom to go with a silk bandana, but soon found I was referencing it all the time myself and didn't really want to give it away. Bought 5 more on Amazon and gave them as Christmas gifts, and people love them. I'd seen people with scarves tied all kinds of cool ways before but never had anyone in my life to show me how to do it. It's not a big deal - seriously, it's ways to tie a scarf after all - but a pretty nice reference to have in my closet when I'm putting on a scarf. Highly recommended if you know someone who might like to know a few cool new ways to tie a scarf. ;-)

Detailed but not overwhelming.

I wanted to teach my nephew more about football but it was hard for me to give him all the background knowledge needed to have a full understanding. I bought it for him and put it on his kindle app on his IPAD. He has become so much more interested and I really think this book was worth its weight. Its simple enough for even someone with no sports knowledge to understand!

This book is exactly what I have been looking for and is the only book on the market that I could find with this years rules updates. Only wish I could purchase a print copy to highlight and flip to during games. Or purchase the rights to print it at home. A+++ book.

We were given this book to read for summer reading before school started this fall. I wasn't sure what to expect when I got the book. I was afraid that it was going to be a typical text book snooze fest, but I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. It's a book about people. People with stories. Stories of how their lives were affected by urban renewal. The author gives you a look at these people through a psychological perspective, and from the get go helps the reader understand root shock in a very practical way.I was waiting for her to cover the city of Detroit, but maybe that'll be in a future book that she writes. Roanoke, Pittsburgh and parts of Jersey are the cities she covers.Very well worth the read. Thumbs up.

This is a very moving and highly informative discussion of a phenomenon often ignored by city planners and developers. I highly recommend it for social scientists, city planners and developers, as well as laypeople.

I started reading the book for a school requirement.I must say I found it very enjoyable, the language is easy to follow and understand, and Dr. Fullilove has a great way of getting you to understand how the american population felt during urban renewal and what urban renewal did to many people on a more personal level. She also reaches deep to help the reader understand the importance in communities and community relationships.

A beautifully written book that provides new and profound perspectives on "displacement" of peoples. In this case, the black population of certain cities where, under the name "urban renewal", whole swaths of cities were destroyed and the people "relocated". Touching and wise.

This Book goes far to explaining why there seems to be a lack of a sense of community among too many of our young inner-city youths and young adults. We have destroyed a lot more than "Slums." We have divested millions of people through Eminent Domain of that spirit of togetherness that makes a grouping of people a disinct neighborhood, where self-pride, dignity, and group identity can thrive, and cause future generations to aspire to become like the great members of their society. "Urban Renewal," is a misnomer, a social monster, that must be stopped. I have written a similar Book: "In The Streets of Vinegar Hill, 2007." (Get it at Amazon.com.) I'm dealing with the same problems in Charlottesville, Virginia that Fullilove dealt with in Roanoke, Virginia. My hat is off to Fullilove. She is a great, inspirational writer and thinker. Her Book is a must-read for anyone wishing to understand the multiplicity of problems facing poor people in comtemporary American society.

This collection of male nudes from the physique pictorial era of the 1940s and 50s presents photos of what its editor explains are from lesser known photographers of that genre. They have the hallmarks of that form, particularly its classicism and theatricality. The photos are well chosen. The scenes are well-constructed by the photographers, and the models exude a calm, masculine beauty and candor that immediately jumps off the page. The male physique pictorial photography of this era was, of course, highly scripted. Those interested in innovation or uniqueness will not appreciate this or similar collections. But like Byzantine icons the beauty in this art form is the artists' ability to stimulate an emotional response and bring a subtle individualism through the strictures and protocols of a defined classicism.There are two exceptional features of this collection. The first is the short histories of each of the ten photographers' lives and work, many of whom are completely forgotten by all except a handful of dedicated collectors of male physique photography. The recounting of how the images created by these men who loved men and the male body were rescued for almost certain destruction, and how the photographers themselves were persecuted for creating and sharing these photos is deeply moving and historically important to tell. The second noteworthy feature is that the book has fairly high production values for its price-range. There has been a new wave of reproduction of vintage male erotica in recent years, and the qualities of such books vary enormously. While "Uncovered" does not have the same production values of a high-end coffee-table collection put out by a big publishing house, the paper on which the photos are printed is good. The images are clear and crisp, and the models retain all the vigor and masculine energy that their photographers saw in them when they stood before the camera decades ago. This is a book worth having in your collection for many years to come.

If you remember those "Physique" magazines of the 1950's -- and even if you don't -- you will relish these pre-Stonewall nudes. Beautifully put together, this book of daring photos recalls a bygone era when the male nude was suppressed. The hunky models are photographed in a variety of settings -- everything from rugged outdoor shots to dramatic studio portraits. In retrospect, some of the picture are amusing while others are classical.Here is a collection of over 100 vintage picture by 10 photographers that will delight both old and new generations. Any connoisseur of the male nude will love this book!

Uncovered is a real treasure to own, the quality of the hardback version is outstanding. if your a collector or just of casual interest the book will be a great addition to your library.

Very nice collection. Most of the guys in the photos are average looking, very few really attractive ones, but I am such a sucker for vintage nude male pics, that I still enjoyed looking at them and a handful of them are really beautiful shots. They are mostly white guys, not much in the way of racial diversity. The personal histories of the daring photographers were what I found most interesting about the book. It crystallizes the bygone time when photos like this were not socially accepted and were perceived as evil filth. On the one hand, the photos are beautiful and you can feel the photographer on the other side of the camera. On the other, your heart may just break because the whole thing was so clandestine and subterranean. I've bought a few other books of nude male photography. None of them has totally pleased me and sometime I hope to do my own book of male nudes. This book is truly inspirational. I'm glad I bought it, even if I find some fault with it.

Got this for the wife and she loves it. Even takes it to girls night to play cards.

In the years when these photos were taboo, it was brave for all the models and photoraphers in this book to display the beautiful image of the male nude.

Personally, I found this book to be an easy and engaging nonfiction work on the natural history of chocolate. The book is aimed at the young adult (12- to 18-year-old) age group and is a great resource for middle and high school students as well as their teachers. I suspect it will best serve as an excellent companion or extra-credit assignment book for any number of classes focused on history, biology, social studies, economics, health, or geography. At 228 pages, it a bit long for a work aimed at young adults; yet the print is large and it is full of interesting black-and-white images; also the flow of the text is broken up with recipes, curious historical stories, and the like. The question is: will young-adult readers be captivated enough to read this book cover-to-cover without being pushed to do so as part of a class assignment? My guess is no. Most children will not want to read this title on their own for the pure pleasure of reading nonfiction. But this should not be a reason not to purchase this book for a public or school library collection, nor for a teacher not to add the work as a companion text or extra credit book in any number of different academic subjects.The story of chocolate crosses many different disciplines. Not all students are interested in all subjects. In this book, the focus of the subject matter frequently shifts among history, sociology, anthropology, biology, and nutrition. Some readers will find all these subjects fascinating, but others may lose interest at the crossroads between two very different academic treatments of the same story and put the book down because they’ve lost interest. That’s always the challenge when an author attempts to interpret the world through the study of one particularly fascinating, but narrow, aspect…in this case chocolate.However, if a child’s love for chocolate can serve as the impetus behind him or her choosing to read this book, then I think it serves a very good purpose. The book nicely demonstrates how one particular thing (in this case a newly discovered seed pod of a new fruit from the tropics) can have a profound impact on the history of the world, an impact far beyond any that anyone could ever have dreamed from the beginning. Young adults need to understand this lesson. This phenomenon is happening at an accelerated rate all around them in today’s modern world through the exponential growth of technology and science.I enjoyed this book quite a lot, but did find myself skimming parts. At times, the book read like a textbook. At other times, there were charming stories. Some sections seemed to get bogged down in too much detail. But I stuck with the book and finished it…and I’m glad I did.Chocolate is a sizable and complex topic. It’s obvious the author fell in love with her topic and wanted to cover as much as she could. In my estimation, she did a very good job of narrowing down the material to what might best appeal to young adults. In addition, she was able to write about this topic in prose that, while aimed at young adults, still respected their ability to deal with challenging ideas and complex sentence structure.It’s too bad the illustrations were done on matte paper rather than glossy paper, but doing otherwise would have made this book unnecessarily expensive.Public and school libraries should definitely purchase this book. And teachers across many disciplines should not hesitate to add this to a list of suggested additional reading tiles for their class.

I was so inspired after reading the book Chocolate Sweet Science & Dark Secrets that I went out and bought my own cacao trees (well seedlings really). I am now in the process of building my own mini rainforest, and in six or seven years I'll be able to make my own chocolate!Anyway, Ms Frydenborg's book on chocolate is really enlightening and thought provoking. I think it is aimed at YA's, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Almost every topic related to chocolate is covered. The subject matter is handled chronologically starting with the first civilizations to use and cultivate the cacao trees. From the Olmecs, to the Maya, the Aztecs and Incas. The author shows how the cacao was revered by the Mesoamericans and how the beans were used as currency, food, and in religions ceremonies including human sacrifice. Next in the time line comes the invasions of the Spanish & Portuguese and the migrations of chocolate to Europe. The decimation of the native population of central and South American is covered along with the slave trade. Next the author covers the industrialization of cacao that transformed the bitter Mesoamerican drink into the chocolate bars of today. Chocolate makers Hanau & Baker, Nestle, Lindt, Hershery are also included. From here the time line moves to current day and to environmental issues and how the loss of the Amazon rainforests is jeopardizing the future of the cacao tree and of chocolate industry itself. The author talks about how various groups are promoting sustainable farming, organic growing, and living wages for the workers. How scientist are mapping the DNA of the different varieties of cacao trees, and how they are hunting for and cataloging the elusive native trees in the hopes of reintroducing the hardy, disease resistant varieties into declining groves of commercial trees.This book on chocolate includes many diverse topics, but all the topics are woven in an interesting and easy to read story. In the end all the different parts combine to tells the amazing story of chocolate. I will never look at a chocolate bar the same way again.
