For visitors to the Aspen area, this hiking guidebook published by the Colorado Mountain Club covers 20 excellent treks. Some are extremely popular, such as Crater Lake Trail and Maroon Bells Scenic Loop, so don't look for solitude on those. The color photos and topo maps will get you where you want to go, though Trails Illustrated produces excellent maps that would make good partners for this guidebook. The guidebook's pocket size makes it easy to take along. Remember: Take photos and leave only footprints. Stay on the trails and spare the wildflowers. An early-morning start will help you avoid parking hassles and afternoon thunderstorms. Have fun!
