This book is a must have for everyone in the costume department. I have been a costumer for 20 years. So, I thought I wouldn't learn much from the book. I was wrong. They have gone through the costume department with a fine tooth comb. Absolute must have book!
This book is HUGE as in heavy with 500+ pages but it is chock full of useful info. I learned a ton just n the 1st chapter. The author is witty and will catch you off guard with something really funny, which I appreciate, it keeps me from dozing at the reading wheel. lol
It is a shame that this book has had only one printing. It is the text book that needs to be available to all people who think that they want to work in costumes for film. How the job is done is just different enough from live theatre costuming that it should be required for all those graduating with an MFA in Costume Design from Theatre programs who think they want to work in film.
used it for fashion class. there isn't much to say. it gave cool layouts in the back for character analysis and scene costuming and what not
This book is classic, most of the information still applies though the technology for a costume breakdown has changed dramatically. It's still a good place to begin learning the craft.
When I had first bought this I wanted to be a C.D but after reading this I had a change of heart. Its cool and all but not my thing! So if you are really interested in all things movie costume design you have to get this.
